2. Sheikh al-Sadooq /Uyoon Akhbar al-Ridha (a.s.) (Key narratives about al- Ridha) / p. 18. 3. Um-Walid is a religious, legal expression applied to an enslaved maid who has borne a baby to her master. Her master can by no means sell her as long as the child is alive, except if he has not paid her price to the one from whom he had bought her and cannot afford to do so unless he sells her. In this case he is allowed to sell her. After the death of her master, she is considered a portion of the patrimony the son inherits from his father. If its value is less than her price, she has to secure the remaining amount of money so as to totally gain her freedom. 4. Sheikh al-Sadooq (d 381 A.H.) / Uyoon Akhbar Al-Ridha (a.s.)/vol. 1/p.14.
